WHO WE ARE

We are a Christ-centered community where we deepen our relationships with others as we grow in our relationship to God.  We welcome you to our community.   Our name, “Church of the Nazarene” speaks to who we are.  Nazareth was the hometown of Jesus and was not viewed positively by many people (John 1:46).  Those who grew up in Nazareth were not the powerful, elite or glamorous.  When early Christians were called “Nazarenes” (Acts 24:5) it was not a complement.  So when we call Jesus “the Nazarene,” we’re reminding ourselves that Jesus isn’t for a select group of people. He’s for everyone who seeks him – whether rich or poor; educated or uneducated; healthy or sick; powerful or powerless!  That’s why we try to be the Church of the Nazarene, because “the Nazarene” came for people like you – people like us – people who seek him.

what we believe

We believe that all people are in need of God’s love and that no one is beyond God’s grace and forgiveness.  We have confidence in God’s power to change us from the inside out and live out of the overflow of God’s love.  We believe nobody is trapped being only what he or she is today.  God will give change-power to those who believe in Him—not just to forgive past sins, but into becoming more like Jesus Christ in thought, word and deed.   God will change us as we grow closer to Him in a community marked by His love, grace, peace, joy and forgiveness.

STAFF

  • Timothy Harmon, lead pastor

Pastor Tim has been lead pastor of the Perry Church of the Nazarene since 2000.  He is a graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary.  He considers it his primary task to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ in all its fullness.  He is married to Sandy and they have three children:  Megan, who is married to Matt, Eric and Katie.  They also have two grandsons, Dawson and Weston.   Growing up in Ohio, he is an avid Buckeye fan, but thoroughly enjoys worshiping with Spartans and Wolverines alike.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading and playing golf.

  • Kylie alleman, worship PASTOR

    Pastor

Kylie has been a part of Perry Church of the Nazarene for six years. She graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in Worship Arts and is currently pursuing ordination. One of Kylie’s greatest joys is spending time with her husband and their two boys, and her other joy is connecting and sharing the hope of Christ with others through worship. In her spare time, she loves singing, reading, writing, doing puzzles, crocheting, and really any type of crafting.

  • Amy barber, connections and care pastor

Pastor Amy has been a member of our church since 2012 where she has led our Grief Share ministry and together with her husband Dan has served in our youth ministry.  Amy is now pursuing ordination after the Lord placed a call on her life into ministry as she walks with people who are hurting in grief, those seeking a new relationship with Christ, and those desiring to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus.  She is also a Registered Nurse at Sparrow Hospital where she finds unique opportunities to be a witness of Jesus’ good news to both patients and the staff that work there with her. Amy and Dan have raised two exceptional young men within the walls of this church and community. They place precious value on quality time spent with them as they seek their own endeavors and adventures.  In her downtime, Amy and Dan are adjusting to the notion of becoming “empty nesters.” To fill the void, they enjoy spending time with their friends, traveling, and exploring a new vacation style of “cruising.”

  • sarah bawks, PASTOR TO FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN

Pastor Sarah graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and certification in Elementary Education.  She taught first grade until she and her husband were blessed with their three children.   Sarah was a stay at home mother for many years and was called to disciple her own children.   But the Lord expanded her call beyond her own to other children as well.     She is currently pursuing a course of ordination as a Children's Pastor.  Family is very dear to her and she believes there is nothing better than being together and helping draw others into a joyful relationship with the Lord as they learn to trust in Him.

  • aaron brawner, youth pastor

Pastor Aaron grew up right here in Perry.  He graduated with a degree in Youth Ministry from Olivet Nazarene University and after leaving for a few years, moved back to the area with his wife Erin (from Morrice originally) in 2011. Since then, God has blessed them by expanding their family, with Lilia arriving in 2019 and Judah in 2020.  He is so grateful to be part of the community of Perry Church of the Nazarene and that God has called him back home where he has had the opportunity to share the Good News of God's love for us shown so perfectly in Jesus!  He enjoys fun and fellowship with students (cause you know God created both!), serving this church community and the broader one, preaching, leading small groups, doing pastoral counseling, and building relationships with students! In his spare time, he enjoys being outdoors, playing sports, watching movies, reading, photography, singing and playing guitar (especially leading worship).

  • stacy smith, ADMINISTRATIVE PASTOR

Pastor Stacy has been part of our church since 2003 when she and her family walked into a church worship service for the first time.  The church embraced them as they helped them to know Jesus and their family has called Perry Church of the Nazarene their home ever since.   Stacy manages the administrative, communication and facility needs of the church.  God has also gifted her with a passion for teaching and she enjoys leading Bible studies, especially with people new to the faith.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, quilting, cooking and spending time with her husband and three boys.
